Oxygen Cleanliness Cleaning
Oxygen cleaning is the process of removing all contaminants—oils, greases, particulates, fibers, moisture, and other residues—from the wetted surfaces of materials and equipment that will contact pure oxygen or other technical gases. This process is essential to minimize the risk of hazardous reactions that can occur when oxygen contacts organic or inorganic impurities.
When oxygen encounters organic contamination, dangerous reactions may occur—including ignition or explosion. Even trace amounts of contamination present a serious risk; therefore, all surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned. Oxygen cleaning ensures that components such as hoses, valves, piping, and vessels are free of residues and ready for safe service in oxygen systems. The process is indispensable for maintaining both safety and equipment reliability.
Requirements for oxygen cleanliness are particularly stringent in the medical, chemical/process, and energy industries.
In medical applications, the emphasis is on patient safety, where any contamination could have serious consequences. In the chemical industry, equipment integrity and operational reliability directly depend on cleanliness, as impurities can impact both safety and performance. In energy applications, high cleanliness supports safe operation and regulatory compliance across oxygen-handling systems.
